Partner description

Cranfield University (CU) is a postgraduate institution renowned for pioneering research in technology and management. Within the Magan Centre of Applied Mycology, the Applied Mycology Group is an internationally recognised Centre of Excellence in specialised areas of the application of fungal technology in the food, environment and health sectors.

Role in the project

CU leads Work Package 6, focusing on the impact of climate change on fungal growth and mycotoxin production. This involves assessing the simultaneous growth of toxigenic species and their related mycotoxins in wheat, maize, and tomato. We will collect data to understand how climate change modulates mycotoxin production in both in vitro and plant-pathogen model systems. We will produce information that will be used in WP7 to create predictive models on expected shifts in microbiological ecology and changes in the occurrence of toxigenic species and related mycotoxins in these crops across various geographical areas in Europe, with a novel emphasis on tomato.
