The MYMATCH research and innovation project, funded by Horizon Europe, unites 12 partners from 9 European countries to tackle food safety risks linked to climate change. At the heart of this challenge are mycotoxinsn, harmful compounds produced by fungi such as Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Alternaria.
In November 2025, MYMATCH successfully completed Work Package 4 (WP4), a critical milestone toward achieving the project’s ambitious goals. WP4 aimed to comprehensively analyze the impact of mycotoxin occurrence on food safety within the context of climate change and the food system.
Our team accomplished four major tasks:
✅ Extensive literature review to gather relevant data and methodologies for integration into MYMATCH
✅ Collation and review of national and European databases on mycotoxin occurrence
✅ Evaluation of rapid on-site detection methods throughout the food production chain
✅ Development of exposure scenarios under various dietary habits
By consolidating existing efforts from public and private institutions, WP4 has established a robust knowledge base for the project. This foundation will enable MYMATCH to predict and mitigate food safety risks, assess human and animal exposure, and implement effective risk management measures.
The project will culminate in the creation of the AI Mycotoxin Management Platform, offering tailored predictions and recommendations to help researchers, farmers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers make informed decisions. Designed to be adaptable to other contaminants, this platform will be co-created with potential users, including EFSA.
